Weather Alert for Johnston

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for southern and central Iowa, including Johnston, effective from 2:20 p.m. to 8 tonight.

The watch means weather conditions are possible to generate thunderstorms with hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter, wind gusts reaching 70 mph, and dangerous lightning.

If you're in the watch area, be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions, and listen for updates and possible warnings. The Weather Service adds that severe thunderstorm sometimes produce tornadoes.
