There’s plenty to do in Johnston in the days ahead, and if you want to travel into Des Moines and around the metro, there’s plenty to do there, too.

Johnston High School Musical - "Thoroughly Modern Millie": The students of Johnston's High School music program will be brushing up on their tap dancing skills as they present their third musical production in as many years April 19-21. Performances are at 7:30 p.m Friday; two shows on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and the final performance on Sunday at 2 p.m. All performances are at the Johnston High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the accounting office at the high school from 7:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2-3:15 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased at the door prior to the performances as available.

Hominini Requiem Art Exhibition Opening Reception: Frame Works announces the art exhibition Hominini Requiem featuring works of art by Katelyn Ilene McBurney. The show will open at Frame Works, 5800 Merle Hay Road, Johnston, on Friday, April 5, and hang in the gallery until April 30. Drop by the opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and meet Katelyn.
The work of Hominini Requiem is comprised of fantastical and absurdist pieces done in homage to our extinct bipeds, as well as in celebration of the special relationship between man and ape. McBurney is an artist and illustrator based out of Des Moines.
METRO
Iowa Barnstormers vs. Spokane Shock: Once again this season, all Iowa Barnstormers home games will be played at Wells Fargo Arena in downtown Des Moines, IA. All 9 home games will be played on Friday and Saturday evenings with a kickoff time of 7:05pm.

Mission: Active Kids Health Fair: Kids can learn about healthy eating and activity at this fun fair, which includes an obstacle course, games and prizes. More than 20 activity stations will be available.

“The True Story of the Three Little Pigs”: This children’s play chronicles the trial of Alexander T. Wolf, accused of killing the three little pigs. Al claims he’s been framed, that the piggy world is against him. In the end, the audience gets to help decide — guilty or not guilty?
When: 1 p.m. Saturday

Brown’s Woods Clean-Up: Families are invited to help clean up Brown’s Woods Preserve County Park, with lunch provided by The Huntmaster’s Club.
When: Saturday
Where: Meet at the south parking lot off Brown’s Woods Drive, west of First Street, West Des Moines. Call 323-5280 to sign up.

ChildServe Bubble Ball: Bubble Ball puts the deliciously noisy packing material to work to raise money for ChildServe, a nonprofit that supports families and their children with special needs. The gala features an art gallery and a runway show of avant-garde designs made out of bubble wrap. Tickets will be sold until the event is at capacity.
When: 7 p.m. Saturday

DSM Sushi Roll: Hop on the party bus and tour the Des Moines area to sample some of its finest sushi on DSM Sushi Roll. Check in at 11:30 a.m. at Appare. Stops will be made at Sakura Sushi, Wasabi Tao, Wasabi Chi and Waterfront Seafood Market. All sushi will be served buffet-style, and you can bring your own beverages (no glass bottles).
When: 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday

Kyle Eastwood Band: The eldest son of actor Clint Eastwood is a universally respected musician. Eastwood's Paris-based jazz quintet thrills audiences with dynamic and pulsing jazz music, full of swing, great rhythms and memorable melodies.

Momix: ‘Botanica’: Since choreographer Moses Pendleton can’t bring his sprawling Connecticut garden to Des Moines, he’s doing the next best thing: Re-creating it Tuesday on the Des Moines Civic Center stage. His world-famous dance company, Momix, will present 22 short works in a plant-themed program called “Botanica.” Performers will dance to a hodgepodge score, ranging from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” to Peter Gabriel, in a stagecraft world of costumes, video projections and giant puppetry by designer Michael Curry, a go-to guy for Disney, the Metropolitan Opera and Cirque du Soleil.
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A pre-show talk begins at 6:30 p.m., and a Q&A session with the dancers follows the show.

David Byrne at 80/35: David Byrne and St. Vincent’s summer tour dates include a July 5 stop at the 80/35 Music Festival. It’s not official until the Des Moines Music Coalition releases its lineup on April 9. Byrne and St. Vincent released an album together last summer, "Love This Giant." In live shows their sets have been a mix of Talking Heads and Byrne solo material, St. Vincent songs and selections from the new album.

Impractical Jokers: The hidden camera-practical joke reality series on TruTV follows the four members of the comedy troupe The Tenderloins as they goad one another into doing public pranks while being filmed by hidden cameras. The interactive comedy show will feature videos, an audience Q&A, stand-up comedy and more.

B.B. King Tickets: Blues guitarist B.B. King and his guitar, named Lucille, will be in town later this spring, but tickets are on sale now. The 87-year-old legend comes to Prairie Meadows on May 24. Tickets are $44-$84 and go on sale now through Ticketmaster.

P!nk - “The Truth About Love” Tour: P!nk will make her tour stop at Wells Fargo Arena on November 8, 2013. Keith Urban in Concert: One of the industry’s most electrifying live performers, four-time Grammy Award winner and American Idol judge Keith Urban will launch his “Light The Fuse Tour 2013” with Little Big Town and special guest Dustin Lynch. Daniel Tosh: Tosh.0's Daniel Tosh will visit the Iowa State Center in Ames June 4. He will present two shows one at 7 p.m. and another at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday June 4 at Stephens Auditorium.

Jackson Browne: The singer/songwriter will perform in Des Moines June 25 at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines. Browne is best known for hits like "These Days," "Running On Empty," "Rosie" and, "The Pretender.” Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek will open for him.

Justin Bieber: Pop star Justin Bieber will make an appearance at Wells Fargo Arena on July 7. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets range from $40 to $95.
Taylor Swift: Country star Taylor Swift returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Aug. 1. No word yet on ticket prices or an on-sale date. The event is listed on Swift's website but is not listed on Ticketmaster or its partner website. In nearby Kansas City, MO tickets range from $30 to $85.
