What's Open, What's Closed on Fourth of July in Johnston?
You can shop and eat and play, but you can't bank, ride the bus, or mail a letter.

While grocery stories and gas stations are open in Johnston on July 4, government services at every level are closed to celebrate the holiday.

Many businesses and most public offices and services will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in Johnston and the metro area.Here's a list of what's open and what's closed

CLOSED
- All U.S. post offices. No mail will be delivered or collected.
- No trash or recycling will be collected on Thursday. Thursday collections will move to Friday and Friday collections will move to Saturday.
- The Johnston Public Library is closed for the day.
- DART buses will not run on July 4.
- Most banks will be closed. Thursday is a U.S. bank holiday.
- Polk County offices are closed; including county courts, the county Health Department and the county treasurer's office.
- Iowa State offices are closed; including all drivers license stations, the Iowa Workforce Development Center and IowaWORK centers.
- Federal offices are closed.

- Merle Hay Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Fourth, however, some stores will have extended hours. Check the mall website for specific store hours.
- Wynnsong 16 theaters in Johnston will be open. You can find movies playing and showtimes online.
- Living History Farms in Urbandale will be open, celebrating the holiday with a day of old-fashioned Independence Day activities.
