Who Took Top Prize in Johnston's Best of Work Out Challenge?

After two weeks, countless votes and fabulous comments from gym participants, it's time to crown a winner.

It's official — our first  Readers' Choice challenge is in the books.

While it was a close contest for most of the two-week period, only one gym could come out on top.

In all, Farrell's tallied 192 votes, plus 23 reviews and comments.

Javier Tuel, the manager of Farrell's in Johnston, commented on how the program changed his life.

"I was a member first," he wrote. "I started the program at 230 pounds, lost almost 40 pounds in 10 weeks. I have continued to live the program and be inspired by every member at Johnston FXB."

Other supporters pointed out the helpfulness of instructors and an atmosphere to keep going.

"Farrell's by far is the best place," said Jay Adams. "The staff is excellent and really concern themselves about your goal. Clean and very fun … do recommend to them to everyone."

Farrell's employs a 10-week challenge combining exercise through kickboxing, strength training and nutrition. Participants meets six-days a week for class with an instructor, who helps keep them motivated.

Coming in second place with 74 votes and a whopping 18 reviews and comments was Goals in Motion Fitness Studio.

"Without a doubt, Goals in Motion is the BEST place in Johnston to work out!!" said Amy Thomas. "I began my journey with Goals in Motion in March of 2011. I signed on for the nine-week challenge with a goal of losing some weight and becoming more fit. … In nine weeks I lost 30 pounds and 8 percent body fat."

What's Next?

On Monday, Johnston Patch will combine with surrounding Patch neighborhoods in the challenge to find the Best Place to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day!
