City and business leaders say the effort aims to boost population and fill hard-to-staff jobs, while experts question whether taxpayer-funded incentives will keep newcomers here long term.
   

• Tornado warning issued for parts of Linn, Johnson counties (cbs2iowa.com) — A tornado warning Tuesday night included Marion, with a fast-moving storm tracking from near the Cedar Rapids airport toward Marion, Ely, Bertram, and Wanatee Park along I-380. Residents were urged to seek sturdy shelter away from windows, as the storm showed radar rotation and potential for a tornado and damaging winds, even though no tornado had been confirmed.
   

• 12 eastern Iowa students named National Math Stars (cbs2iowa.com) — A Marion Independent School District student has been chosen for Iowa's 2026 National Math Stars cohort, joining peers from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City in a decade-long enrichment program. These top math performers will receive weekly mentoring, advanced STEM opportunities, and, for some, substantial need-based financial support to fuel camps, courses, and other learning experiences through high school.
