1. The Purple Wagon advances to final round of statewide Open 4 Business competition (corridorbusiness.com) — A longtime Marion children's gift shop, The Purple Wagon, has reached the final round of Main Street Iowa's Open 4 Business competition, vying for up to $25,000. Now located in the former Marion Maid-Rite building in Uptown, the expanded store is highlighted as a key example of small-business growth and downtown revitalization benefiting local families and the district's most visible corner.
2. Falliday Market returns to Marion's Lowe Park on Saturday (cbs2iowa.com) — Marion residents can head to Lowe Park today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the free Falliday Market, featuring about 60 vendors and food trucks. With soggy ground limiting grass parking, overflow parking shifts to the Irish Drive entrance, linked by a trail and golf-cart shuttles, so plan your route and wardrobe for the weather.
3. Marion father found not guilty by reason of insanity seeks independent evaluation (cbs2iowa.com) — A Marion man previously found not guilty by reason of insanity in his young son's 2024 death is asking a Linn County judge to allow an independent mental health evaluation. His attorney argues an outside expert's violence-risk assessment is needed to inform future decisions on continued hospitalization at Cherokee Mental Health Institute, while prosecutors say current law doesn't guarantee recurring outside exams.
4. Junior Achievement honors Eastern Iowa business leaders, raises more than $167,000 (cbs2iowa.com) — A Marion civic leader, Nick AbouAssaly, was among four honorees celebrated at Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa's Corridor Business Hall of Fame, which raised over $167,500 for student programs. The Cedar Rapids event highlighted Eastern Iowa entrepreneurs and volunteers who help deliver financial literacy and career-readiness lessons to more than 53,000 students across 45 school districts.
