Come to Linn County Public Health’s Open House

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – When asked what the Linn County Public Health department (LCPH) does, many people are not sure. They may know about restaurant inspections or that the clinic provides vaccines for children, but not about the many other services and programs LCPH provides for the community. To help increase awareness of LCPH’s services and to celebrate National Public Health Week, LCPH is hosting an open house on Thursday April 4 from 4:00-6:00 pm at 501 13th St. NW in Cedar Rapids. The public is encouraged to attend this event.

“The goal of the open house is to show Linn County residents all the valuable services public health delivers and provides to our community, and this is also an opportunity for the public to meet our staff,” said Pramod Dwivedi, LCPH’s director. Some of the many services LCPH offers include monitoring air quality, helping low-income residents get screened for cancer, preparing for emergencies, and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. Each branch of LCPH will have a table with information about the services it provides.

The open house is being held during National Public Health Week. The annual Live Healthy Linn 5K Fun Run is also part of the week. This year LCPH has partnered with the Hiawatha Parks & Recreation Department to host fun run, which is taking place on April 6.
