I’m the first to admit, I’m no expert in the environment or even in families for that matter, but I have a personal commitment to live lighter and healthier on this earth and I am always seeking new ways to do that within the context of my family and community.
We trade wood splitting for storage in a neighbor’s barn. I loaned my guitar to a friend in exchange for manure for my garden. My neighbor shares fresh eggs with us. We take care of the animals when they are gone. I have a client who made me a lap quilt in exchange for energy work.
Sometimes we can’t exchange an item or service of equal monetary value for something that we need. That’s where the concept of Time Banking was created. Time Bank is an organization that allows you to trade time, 1 hour = 1 hour, for goods or services that you need http://timebanks.org/ There is an eastern Iowa organization called http://www.thetapestry.us/ that meets regularly to share talents, services and time.
