(Blog) Keeping it Real (Estate) With Deanna - Do it Yourself or Hire a Professional?

Should I do a home maintenance task myself or hire a professional? I'm wanting to put my home on the market and want to keep costs down.

If you have carpentry, painting, or other home maintenance skills and want to improve your home go for it. But only if you can do as good of a job or better than a professional.

Yes, you can save a lot of money doing it yourself. But if it is not as good as a professional, buyers will notice and could decide not to purchase your home because of it.

This goes for small jobs like painting a wall. Hard to believe, but I have seen houses that are on the market where a splashes of orange wall paint can be seen on the ceiling and where sellers haven’t bothered to take down the blue paint tape.Buyers do notice. They are also particular about finished basements. They want everything lined up, painted, and as seamless as a professional would do, if it’s not they are likely to pass, or add money into the purchase agreement for a professional to redo the task.
