Boosting the exterior of your home can add value.

Realtors recently rated many exterior improvements as the most valuable home investment projects as part of the 2011-12 Remodeling Cost vs. Value Report.

Siding topped the report, with as much as 78 percent of costs recouped upon resale.  Doors and window replacements also saw high returns.

Curb appeal matters to buyers. Buyers are being more and more savvy, looking for properties that aren’t going to require much maintenance in the next five to 10 years.

An exterior project that is not very expensive to do is deck staining/refinishing.  I’m always surprised by the number of homes I show that really need their decks to be stained. Buyers always notice and are quick to point it out. 

Sometimes it’s hard to see your own home as a buyer. For an unbiased opinion, give a local Realtor a call.
