(Blog) Top Ten Questions Your Stylist Should Ask You

These are the questions I as a stylist feel are most important to ask a client when they sit in my chair, in order to find the perfect style that fits their individual needs.

1) What is your current "look"? Conservative, edgy, funky, sleek, professional, classic etc.?

2) What look are you now going for? Do you want to try something new or add just a little more funk to your very classic style?

3) How much time are you willing to put into styling your hair?

4) Do you use product? Are you willing to?

5) Does your job have any style requirements?

6) Are you "good" with hair?

7) Do you want to keep your base length??

8) What troubles are you having now with your hair?

9) Are there any areas that you are especially concerned about? Like bang length or layering around the face that drives you nuts if it gets too short.

10) If you have had a bad style in the past with another stylist, what was wrong with it and why didn't it work?

If your stylist does not ask you these questions, beware. I honestly try to ask these questions at the beginning of every service with each new client and continue to ask my regular clientele as well. By discussing these topics you can ensure that you will get the full quality of service that you deserve. Keep in mind that although I listed these as the "top ten", I honestly feel I could add many more...these are just the most important. So, if your stylist only says something like "you want a trim?" or "do you have a picture?" and isn't able to offer you any seriously educated suggestions on what would work for you...get out of their chairs and run!
