Buried Beauty!
This is a great example of how important getting the right type of layering for your hair type is.
Before: I immediately fell in love with this girls hair as soon as she walked through the door.
It is literally perfect. It is thick and full with the most amazing natural wave/curl any woman could ask for. The only problem was the cut. It was a big problem. She walked in so fed up with her hair that she was ready to cut it off to the shoulders….(which would be like draining the water of a beautiful mountain lake).
I couldn't do it.

What she really needed was layering, and the right kind. Layering is all about technique and angles. This should be altered for look and the problems each clients hair is faced with. She was getting the standard 90 degree layered cut which was NOT what she needed. The problem with that is that it only removes the bulk from the bottom making it look straggly and leaving the top heavy and flat (the bowl).
After: …and THERE IT IS!!!!
This is the glory that was hiding under all that bulk that was left in the upper half of her hair! This girl has fairy tale hair and now has the cut to show it off. I added many layers at a very steep angle so as to remove the bulk from her mid section and lighten the top layers while leaving thickness through the bottom.

I basically added balance and movement. I texturized to add movement and gave her curl a place to go. For all of you looking for a layered cut, a thing to remember…proper layering should not appear "ledgy"… layers should be there… but not be able to be counted. Now all she has to do is add curl creme, air dry/diffuse and GO!
