Do's And Don'ts In Hair For Spring/Summer 2012

A quick and easy run down of what TO do and what NOT to do in hair this spring and summer.

All I can say is…what a time to be a female! This years styles in the areas of hair and fashion are some of the best I've seen in the last decade. It seems last year's bohemian/earthy look is out and the time for classic, feminine, flirty and clean is now!

DON'T: It's time to say goodbye to styles such as the steep angular bob, blunt Egyptian bangs and choppy/blunt layers. Sorry emo chicks, I doubt you care, but your rocker long shag (which I loved creating) is also taking a backseat. As far as color, we need to say goodbye to extreme lightness on the top paired with extreme darkness on the bottom, and poorly placed chunky highlights.  Solid jet black hair has also left the scene…hard. Don't hate me rocker chicks, I still dig you…this trend just doesn't.

DO: It's time to say "hello" to extremely long (bra strap length) flowing layered cuts, longer side-swept bangs, "flapper" bobs that are cropped just above the jaw line and left wavy (wave anywhere is still hot), super textured/short pixies and anything else with a very structured shape that is then lightly broken to create softness in the ends. I for one am EXCITED. Color is also wonderful this year. Multidimensional color holds strong but newer tones are making an appearance, such as coppers and reds of all shades. More dramatic colors are also hitting the mainstream as they are being placed softly and more blended with more natural shades throughout the hair. More and more women are opting for less natural color, this year will only further this trend. Instead of the 2009-2011 trend of light on the top and dark on the bottom, now it's  all about exactly the opposite; dark on the top with flowing lighter chunks coming out from underneath. I love this look and the upkeep is ridiculously simple for natural brunettes.

Basically ladies, you need to spread your wings this year and fly. The most important factors to remember are keeping your look very feminine at any length with flirty texture while keeping it structured and  very clean and you cannot possibly fail this year!!

If you need some help on modifying your style to keep with the times, call/text me to set up an appointment today!!
