Keeping it Real (Estate) With Deanna - Do neutral colors really help a house sell quicker?
If I'm selling, do I need to repaint my walls to neutral colors?

Every now and then, I will have someone come into an open house and say they miss color.
I understand, as I am a color person, too. However, when selling your home you really need to have neutral wall and ceiling colors as they allow buyers to see themselves in your home. You want them to leave your home and remember the large master bedroom, the open kitchen, the gas fireplace, not that the bedrooms were bright purple and dark blue. The problem with color is that it gets buyers talking about if they like it or not (and usually they don’t), and therefore takes the focus off of what you’re selling - your home.
Sometimes sellers will say, well, I’ll just offer a paint allowance. This isn’t a bad idea, by any means, but it’s best to have it already painted down to white or light beige. Buyers are like the rest of us, they have so much on their plate. They want to know that they can move into a home right away and not have to worry about anything for a year or more.
