Keeping it Real (Estate) with Deanna - Preparation key to home ownership

If you’re thinking 2012 could be the year you make the big move of purchasing your own home you’ll want to start preparing now.

Yes, it may seem a bit premature if you’re really not planning on moving until summer or fall, but honestly, the clearer picture of your finances you have the better off you’ll be.

Talk to a lender to see where you stand financially. Will you have 3.5 percent or more for a down payment?  Could anyone gift you money if you’re a little short, yes, this is allowed.

A lot of buyers are eager to start looking at homes being it online or in person, but it’s always best to know where they stand before they get started.  After all, it’s no fun to find your dream house only to be told that you can’t secure a loan for it.  You may be pleasantly surprised at where your credit is.  Or if it’s the opposite, there will still be time to get things in order to make home ownership a reality.

Finally, interview Realtors to find someone you click with.  Someone you’re comfortable with and who has the knowledge to get you to the closing table.
