Hot water heat systems seem to be something people either love or steer clear of.
The benefits of hot water heating is that it is a warm, cozy heat. It sounds cheesy, but if you own one you know exactly what I mean. I have friends that love their hot water heating systems for this reason.
They can be a little bit more to run than gas furnances depending upon cost of gas, water, etc. The big drawback to them is the cost of replacement. Though many have a long life, the cost to fix them can be more than a gas furnace. Most people eventually choose to replace the systems with gas heat. A new gas furnace with installation can cost between $2,000 and $5,000. Usually, if you put in a new furnace with a new central air system you can get a break on cost. I have had clients replace both for under $5,000.
