The Pros and Cons of Hot Water Heat

Pros and cons of hot water heating systems

Hot water heat systems seem to be something people either love or steer clear of.

The benefits of hot water heating is that it is a warm, cozy heat. It sounds cheesy, but if you own one you know exactly what I mean. I have friends that love their hot water heating systems for this reason.

They can be a little bit more to run than gas furnances depending upon cost of gas, water, etc. The big drawback to them is the cost of replacement. Though many have a long life, the cost to fix them can be more than a gas furnace. Most people eventually choose to replace the systems with gas heat. A new gas furnace with installation can cost between $2,000 and $5,000. Usually, if you put in a new furnace with a new central air system you can get a break on cost. I have had clients replace both for under $5,000.

Have you had one yourself? If so, what did you like most/least about the system? Would you recommend this type of heating system?
