VIDEO: "Create" - a New Short Film by Sam Fathallah
A journey into the lives of the self-expressive at heart, Create is a documentary film.
BACKGROUND
Katie Mulholland, the superintendent of the Linn-Mar school district asked me to create a film that highlighted creativity and a few other words. She said she was looking for a video that could be shown during the pre-school year district staff event. I told her I had thought about doing a film showcasing creative people at the school, and she told me that the idea was spot on.
This video was shot over a 4 day period. I sent out a message to a group of 10 students who I thought were exceptionally creative and told them that I'd like to interiew and film them in their natural habitats. I scheduled to film them in 2 hour blocks at a location of their choice. Most of the locations in the film are homes of the interviewees, but some shots were filmed in Linn-Mar Stadium, the little theater of Linn-Mar High School, as well as Lowe Park. I asked them questions that made them think about why they expressed themselves and who they want to ultimately become.
TECHNICAL
The shoots were taken throughout the day but I favored natural light for most of the shots. A dolly as well as a jib camera crane were used in the making of the film. Shot in 60i with a Sony NEX 5, downgraded to 24p in editing. A stock 18-55mm f/3.5-5 lens was the only lens used. The audio was recorded using an iPod microphone and edited in Audacity.
