City Of Marion: Marion Traffic Patterns To Shift As Construction Projects Progress

As the 2021 construction season starts to wind down, the Marion Engineering Department is reminding residents and commuters of changes in traffic patterns that will go into effect next week.

Uptown Streetscape
On Monday, Oct. 11, the intersection at 10th Street and 7th Avenue will be closed, adjacent to what is already closed for the Uptown Streetscape Project. This closure will allow the contractor to work ahead to complete utility work in the intersection. With good weather, the intersection will be closed for about six weeks.

“We’re getting close,” said City Engineer Mike Barkalow. “The current closures along 7th Avenue and the adjacent side streets are expected to reopen to traffic by Thanksgiving. Working ahead to complete this work in the 10th Street intersection will minimize the impacts to traffic on 7th Avenue next year when we begin work on Phase 2 of the project.”

The 1200 block of 7th Avenue and 12th Street should be opening soon to provide an alternate north/south route across 7th Avenue, but there will be some overlap when both 10th Street and 12th Street are closed.

“We’re so appreciative of those who continue to show up in support of the business community,” said Brooke Prouty, director of the Uptown Marion District and business liaison for the project. “There’s no better time than the present to support local. Parking is available just a block or two from the storefronts.”

CeMar Trail
Additionally, on Tuesday, Oct. 12, paving is expected to begin on the new section of the CeMar Trail which will connect to the 7th Street/7th Avenue roundabout. There will be intermittent short duration closures on the leg of 6th Avenue that runs behind CK Café. Drivers are reminded to watch for trucks entering and exiting this work zone during the paving operations.
