Author Christian Schoon will read from and sign copies of his recently published science fiction/fantasy novel Zenn Scarlett at New Bo Books in Cedar Rapids, Saturday, June 29, at 1 PM. to 2 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
A portion of book sale proceeds from the event will be donated to area animal welfare organizations Iowa Humane Alliance, Witty Kitties, Inc. and Iowa Equine Rescue and Awareness League.
Dr. Temple Grandin, noted animal science authority, autistic activist and best-selling author (Animals in Translation) says of Schoon’s novel: “All future veterinarians will want to read Zenn Scarlett and her adventures with veterinary medicine on alien animals.” E.C. Myers, winner of the 2012 Andre Norton YA SF/F Award, says the book is "thrilling...refreshing… The breathtaking conclusion will leave you desperate for more." Mike Mullin, author of Ashfall, calls the novel "...delightful, bizarre and occasionally terrifying." Best-selling SF/F author Melissa West (Gravity, Hover) calls Zenn Scarlett "...utterly imaginative... I couldn't put it down!" And Nerine Dorman (Inkarna) says “This story just blew me away. I’ve worked in the veterinary industry so I’m totally passionate about animal care, and Christian Schoon writes with a voice of authenticity that left me with goose flesh… kind of like Gerald Durrell meets a Star Wars bestiary.”
Schoon's background includes work as an in-house writer with the Walt Disney Company and freelance scriptwriting for live-action and animated TV programming. Zenn Scarlett is published by Strange Chemistry Books, the Young Adult imprint of award-winning genre publisher Angry Robot; distribution in North America by Random House.
