Officials Recover Marion's Little Free Library in Trailer Court

The Free Little Library is Marion went missing from Thomas Park sometime between late November to early December. Authorities and library officials found it over the weekend.

A little good news to start the week. Officials found Marion's Little Free Library on Sunday.

A library patron spotted the little library from Thomas Park in the front yard of a home in a local trailer court, the library posted on its Facebook page. Jo Pearson, the assistant director of the library who notified Marion Patch initially of the bad news and now the good news, went with two Marion Police officers to reclaim it.

"All the signs are torn off, and the pretty white owls are gone from the sides -- and, no books. But it is otherwise unharmed. We will try to get it replaced at Thomas Park soon," the post said.

The red wooden structure is a bit bigger than a mailbox and serves a similar purpose. People can take or leave a book. It is part of a national literacy project intended to promote reading through the free exchange of books.

Marion's second library is in Lowe Park. They went up this summer.

The finding is good news. Pearson lamented that she was not sure they would be able to replace it if it was not found. Now, they are working to get it replaced in Thomas Park.

The library credits social media for spreading word to be on the look out.

"Thanks to everyone who shared our bad news -- the increased awareness must have led our friend Mary to notice it! Yeah for social media," the post said.
