Vocal Point is Brigham Young University's award-winning a cappella ensemble that has wowed audiences everywhere with their vocal firepower, innovative arrangements, and remarkable vocal percussion. They will be performing twice on Saturday, June 15th, at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. Following a 1:00 p.m. matinee, they will conduct a free workshop at 3:30 for area high school choral students. The evening performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Vocal point was featured on The Sing-Off, NBC's popular a cappella competition show.
This nine-member male ensemble includes Trevor Johnson, a 2008 Cedar Rapids Washington High School graduate, who was active in concert band, marching band, concert choir, madrigal choir and jazz choir. Accepted as a freshman into BYU's rigorous School of Music, Trevor auditioned for Vocal Point and has been singing with the group since 2012. The son of Paul and Susie Johnson, Trevor arranged and combined an African spiritual called Noyana with a pioneer hymn penned in Iowa called Come, Come Ye Saints. This arrangement is featured on Vocal Point's newest album: Lead Thou Me On: Hymns and Inspiration. Trevor said the inspiration for his arrangement came from his gospel choir experience at Johnson Elementary School in Cedar Rapids.
Tickets for either of Vocal Point's performances are $10 and available via http://vocalpointtickets.byu.edu/.
