• Central College Student Anna Dennis of Davenport, Iowa, to Perform in "Trouble in Tahiti" (rcreader.com) — Central College in Pella is staging Leonard Bernstein's opera "Trouble in Tahiti" Sept. 30–Oct. 3 at the Cox-Snow Music Center, with evening performances and $10 tickets, free for Central ID holders. The double-cast production features 26 students and explores a troubled 1950s marriage through a mix of jazzy and emotional music.
• Flag Retirement Ceremony Happening at Graceland Cemetery October 11th (kniakrls.com) — Pella residents can drop off worn American flags at the Memorial Building for a countywide retirement ceremony at Graceland Cemetery on Sunday, October 11, starting at 4 p.m. The event will feature formal flag retirements, a braille flag presentation, and recognition of residents who display the flag properly, with families encouraged to attend and bring lawn chairs.
• 15-Minute Lesson Plan: Character Analysis (nytimes.com) — A Pella middle school English teacher shares a quick character-analysis lesson built around Sabaa Tahir's essay "Katniss Everdeen Is My Hero." Her approach helps students connect with favorite fictional or historical figures, especially after reading "The Outsiders," and offers flexible prompts local educators could easily adapt in Pella classrooms.
