Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan on Wednesday night had the crowd charged up with a speech that repeated the refrain, "We can do this."

He criticized President Barack Obama for not enacting the change promised four years ago, for shirking responsibility for the country's stagnant economy and for over-spending.

Ryan mixed touching anecdotes about his life -- including the death of his father when he was a teen and his mother's drive to open a business after the loss -- with an outline of economic policies under a Romney administration.

Early in the speech, Republican Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was seen with a tear running down his face, according to the Huffington Post.

At the time, Ryan had just finished introducing his family and mentioning his father, also named Paul Ryan, who died when Ryan was a teenager.

On Tuesday, Ann Romney earned widespread praise for her dress, speech delivery and the insights she shared with potential voters about her husband, who some see as aloof.

"This is the man America needs," she told the crowd, according to the Huffington Post. "This man will not fail."

She was followed by keynote speaker New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who took heat from pundits for not sufficiently promoting Gov. Romney's qualifications and economic experience.

Fox News host Chris Wallace was less than wowed by Christie's speech.

"I have to say, personally, I thought it was one of the most off-key keynote speeches I ever heard," Wallace said, according to the Huffington Post.

On Wednesday night the convention audience and TV viewers heard from vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.
