• Windsor Heights explores converting abandoned rail corridor into trail along 73rd Street (kcci.com) — A long rail corridor that runs through Urbandale and several neighboring suburbs is being abandoned, and Windsor Heights is leading efforts to convert its section into a shared-use trail along 73rd Street. Regional cities are exploring a coordinated rail-to-trail network, which could eventually give Urbandale residents new connections for biking and walking across the metro. Negotiations over ownership and trail rights will unfold through 2027.
• Lahn: Cancer in Iowa talk without water quality 'not genuine' (qctimes.com) — A statewide cancer policy forum at the Urbandale Public Library brought Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn to Urbandale to discuss how water quality, prevention, and research funding fit into Iowa's cancer fight. Lahn argued any serious cancer conversation must include clean water, while advocates pressed candidates to commit to stronger screening access and long-term support for patients and survivors.
