• Lahn says cancer crisis isn't partisan and it must be solved in Iowa (khqa.com) — An American Cancer Society "coffee cancer chat" in Urbandale brought GOP gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn together with local survivors to talk cancer policy, water quality, and Medicaid. Lahn emphasized bipartisan solutions, early-detection access, and redirecting university funding toward pediatric cancer research, while remaining cautious about large tobacco tax hikes and supportive of managed-care Medicaid with work requirements.
• Windsor Heights explores converting abandoned rail corridor into trail along 73rd Street (kcci.com) — A long rail corridor that runs through Urbandale and several neighboring cities is being abandoned, and Windsor Heights is leading early talks to convert part of it into a shared-use trail. If cities secure trail-use rights before 2027, Urbandale residents could eventually see a new regional path linking multiple Des Moines suburbs along the old Grimes Line.
• Watchlist Wednesday: Who's on the Class of 2030 Radar This Week? (extrainningsoftball.com) — An Urbandale catcher, Carla Henry, is gaining national attention as one of four Class of 2030 softball players highlighted in this week's Watchlist Wednesday rankings preview.
