• Iowa veteran receives donated home in Urbandale (kcci.com) — A local veteran and his family just received a newly built home in Urbandale from the nonprofit Iowa Homes for Heroes, with a ribbon-cutting held today in the Oakwood Haven Development. Built by KRM Homes and supported by R&R Realty Group, the house is only the organization's second completed project and aims to provide long-term stability and peace of mind for a disabled veteran family.
• Here is What's Happening Across Indian Country on Indigenous Peoples Day (nativenewsonline.net) — An Indigenous Iowans' Day celebration is set for Saturday at Living History Farms in Urbandale, offering a local way to honor Native history and culture. It's one of many Indigenous Peoples Day events nationwide, ranging from parades and powwows to lectures and art programs, with several other gatherings also planned around Iowa and the Midwest.
• Valley West Mall's new owner pushing out remaining tenants (weareiowa.com) — With Valley West Mall's new owners ordering all tenants out within 30 days, the Des Moines Children's Museum is shifting to a temporary Urbandale location while it searches for a permanent home. Longtime mall businesses say the short notice, coming just before the holiday season, feels abrupt and financially damaging as they scramble for new spaces.
