Faith Lutheran Church 4th Graders donate $661 to Mosaic In Des Moines

Faith Lutheran Church youth make donation to Mosaic In Des Moines

The 4th Grade class at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, Iowa 50325, presented a $661.00 check to Mosaic In Des Moines on the morning of May 19.

The presentation was the culmination of class members selling tiles to raise money for a trip to a sporting event for Mosaic clients, which is slated to take place this summer.  The 4th Graders at Faith Lutheran Church learned about Mosaic’s group homes and how they help adults with intellectual disabilities live full lives. The Tile Shop in Clive donated all the ceramic tiles to the fundraising project.

The donation for the trip is one of many activities marking the 100th anniversary of Mosaic, which was started in Axtell, Nebraska, as the Bethphage Inner Mission Association with 54 charter members who each donated $1.00. A similar ministry, the Martin Luther Ministries, was established in Sterling, Nebraska in 1925. The two ministries were merged in 2003 and the national office is now located in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mosaic In Des Moines is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. “We are truly thankful and excited for this amazing gift from Faith Lutheran,” noted Laura Holtman, the agency’s resource development manager. “The 4th Graders have carried on that wonderful piece of our history that reminds us all that we each can make a difference no matter what you are able to give or what age you are!”
