Think before you speak....

Stop and think about what you're really saying, doggone it!

I realize people often say things without thinking about the root of the phrase. But it nearly kills me to hear a few poor messages about dogs perpetuated with common phrases...

"I don't have a dog in this fight" means you don't have a stake in the discussion, I get that. But really, is discussing dog fighting with such nonchalance something you feel is ok? I assume, if you're a normal human with morals, you don't believe dog fighting is ok. So please stop acting as if it's an everyday occurrence.

Another phrase: "He/she is such a pitbull," or "He/she is the pitbull of (insert profession name)." This one drives me crazy! While I would TOTALLY take being called a pitbull a compliment, it is not for the reason implied by these phrases.

Pitbulls are sweet, loving, loyal and smart dogs. Unless they've been mistreated, as with any breed, pitbulls would rather play in the yard and curl up in your lap than anything else. So if you want to call someone a snugglebug, likening them to a pitbull is appropriate. Inferring anything else is just feeding into poor breed stereotyping.

What phrases drive you crazy because of the message they actually convey?
