The City of Urbandale will begin its Mosquito Spraying Program the week of June 24, 2013. City Staff will be fogging area neighborhoods with approved adulticide product between the hours of 9:30 pm to 3:00 am when conditions are favorable for spraying. Spraying will be done with City of Urbandale Trucks. All City trucks are white and will have an amber warning light blinking to alert residents they are in the area
The primary goal of the program is to reduce the mosquito population in order to decrease the risk of mosquito-borne disease and nuisance mosquito species to the citizens and visitors of our city. While spraying reduces the mosquito population, it is still recommended that residents use mosquito repellent when outside early in the morning and late in the evening.
Residences can do their part in the battle against mosquitos by eliminating sources of standing water such as disposing of old tires, any type of containers that collect and hold water, maintaining gutters, etc. Pet dish and bird bath water should be changed every 2 days.
If you have any questions concerning this program, please contact the Urbandale Parks Department at 515.331.6799.
