Construction Begins on Upscale Dog Day-Camp, Lodging Facility

Construction has begun on Dogwoods Lodge, 2960 S.E. Grimes Blvd., an upscale dog-centric facility conveniently located between Urbandale, Johnston and Grimes. 

“This is the culmination of four years of planning, so it’s exciting to finally see physical evidence of our work,” said Johnston resident Jessica Lohry, owner of Dogwoods Lodge and Pooch Academy Dog Training of Johnston, in a news release. “Dogwoods will provide all high-end services. This will be the premium center for dogs and their owners.”

The 11,000-square-foot Dogwoods Lodge will include dog lodging, daycamp, training and grooming on two acres north of Interstate 80, right off Iowa Highway 141, according to a news release. The Lodge will have high-end features such as heated floors, mud-free outdoor play areas, no-slip indoor play areas, elaborate indoor/outdoor suites, a salon-style grooming area and nationally-trained groomers and trainers.

Through running Pooch Academy Dog Training, Lohry said she recognized the need for a high-end dog-centric facility in the metro, especially in the northwest suburbs, which do not have many dog-related businesses. Once open, Lohry’s Pooch Academy classes will be offered at Dogwoods Lodge.
