DES MOINES, December 30--At approximately 5:30 p.m. today, a DART bus on route #5 started on fire while driving on Merle Hay Road. Only one passenger was on board at the time, and there were no injuries. The Des Moines Fire and Police Departments responded and put out the fire.
“We are very grateful that there were no injuries as a result of the fire, and we appreciate the quick response from the Des Moines Fire and Police Departments,” said Elizabeth Presutti, DART General Manager.
A full investigation will be done to determine the cause of the fire. The impacted bus is from the same manufacturer and series as another DART bus that caught on fire earlier this year.

“We did a full inspection of all buses in that series following this summer’s fire and didn’t detect any similar problems. We will investigate the cause of this fire and determine how to prevent any future problems,” says Presutti.
Any media inquiries should be directed to Amanda Wanke, DART Chief Engagement and Communications Officer, at 515-360-2125.
