Day 5: Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park & Gardens

The Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park & Gardens is located in Walker Johnston Park on 3/4-acre east of the creek, south of the library and adjacent to the current bike trail.

The Memorial Tree Park & Gardens is a quiet, contemplative place in the midst of a busy urban park. It is a place of beauty, with a variety of trees, flowers and shrubs where one can relax and perhaps think about the many individuals, businesses and community groups who have helped make Urbandale the fine city it is today.

The park has a fountain, benches, an event plaza, and picnic tables for community use.   It also features a 20 x 15 open shelter that is available for reservation.

Large and small pavers are available for purchase in the plaza area to honor or memorialize loved ones.  The large pavers are 11 ½” x 11 ½” and cost $250.  The small pavers are 7 ½” x 7 ½” and cost $100.  Engraving is included in the cost.

To reserve the shelter or to purchase pavers, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at parks-rec@urbandale.org or 515-278-3963.
