Des Moines Register to Begin Charging for Urbandale, Other News on the Internet
Soon, only paid subscribers will have full access to the paper's content on the internet.

The Des Moines Register is going behind a paywall beginning June 1, which means people who don’t pay for a subscription will have limited access to the paper’s content on the internet.
In an article in Sunday’s edition of the paper, publisher Laura Hollingsworth announced that subscriptions will now be required for all but a limited number of the Register’s online stories.
In a subsequent letter to subscribers, the paper announced the changes will begin June 1, with full subscriptions “an extremely great value — just $23.00 per month.”
The Sunday story told readers:
• Subscription options will range from full access including seven-day delivery of the print edition to full access digital only. Every subscription option will include full access to DesMoinesRegister.com, the e-newspaper, tablet and mobile sites, and smartphone applications.
• Nonsubscribers will have access to a limited number of free articles before they are required to subscribe.
• Some areas of DesMoinesRegister.com, such as obituaries, the home page, section fronts (such as News, Sports, Business and Opinion), Cars.com and CareerBuilder.com, will remain open to all.
• Our e-newspaper — with all of that day’s content offerings — is an exact digital replica of the print edition.
