Don’t Get Your Irish Up; Urbandale Neighborhood Bar is Open Again

After being closed most of the summer, former owner Pete Murphy took back ownership of his bar and restaurant and reopened it.

A neighborhood tradition has resumed at 2675 100th St. with a familiar name at the helm of a favorite local watering place.

Former owner Pete Murphy has reopened what was Murphy’s Bar & Grill under a slightly different name – Murphy’s Sports Bar & Grill, the Des Moines Register reported. The bar reopened July 15 after being closed since May.

Murphy operated the bar from 2002 to 2011 until he sold it to Halterman, who closed the bar in May.

The new menu concentrates on appetizers, homemade pizzas, sandwiches and salads. More televisions have been added for sports fans.

“I want this place to have more of a neighborhood feel,” Murphy said of his bar, which first opened as The Irish Tradition in 1997. The bar has also operated as Traditions and Murphy’s Law before Pete Murphy changed the name to Murphy’s Bar & Grill in 2003.
