Urbandale Car Chase Ends With Standoff In Yard of Suspect's Mom

A man who reportedly fled officers trying to stop him for traffic violations drove to his mother's house, authorities said.

A man who allegedly failed to pull over when police tried to stop him for traffic violations ultimately surrendered to authorities in his mother's driveway, the Des Moines Register said.

Officers saw Matthew Couch, 27, of Des Moines allegedly speeding and tailgating cars on Meredith Drive at 10:12 a.m. Monday, said Randy Peterson. When officers tried to stop Couch, he reportedly continued to speed on to Lower Beaver Drive, the paper said.

Peterson said Couch reportedly passed a few cars and entered oncoming lanes of traffic. His average speed was 44 miles per hour with a top speed of 71 in a 35 mph area, the newspaper said.
