Meet an Urbandale Candidate: Kyle Kruidenier
Four candidates are running unopposed for four seats in the Urbandale School Board election Tuesday.
Kyle Kruidenier is a newcomer to the board running for the open seat of Cynthia Munyon, who is not seeking re-election after 12 years.
Incumbents Cate Newberg, Adam Obrecht, and Mark Wierson are seeking re-election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Check the Polk County Auditor for your polling place.

Kyle Kruidenier has school-aged children and is a taxpayer. Those two things influenced his decision to run for school board for the first time.
Because of them, “I have an interest in the decisions that are being made in our schools,” he said. “The Urbandale School District has a long tradition of excellence both in the classroom and with extracurricular activities offered through the schools. I want to have a small part in continuing that tradition.”
Kruidenier wants to help ensure that students are getting the best education the district can provide. He believes the district is offering students a wide range of opportunities.
The one pressing issue he believes he will have to deal with as a board member is the school budget.
Kruidenier said he thinks his abilities as an attorney can assist him.
“As an attorney, I have to be able to see all sides of an issue as I advise clients. I think this will translate to the school board as well.”
