New Urbandale Child Care Facility to Hold Open House Saturday
The Magellan Academy will open its doors to students on Sept. 4, so parents can use Saturday's open house as a sneak peek at the facility.

The Magellan Academy, a new child-care center now enrolling students at its Urbandale, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.
The facility is located at 2955 86th St. in Urbandale and is the first Iowa site. Parents and families are welcome to attend the event, which will include tours, refreshments, fun kid's activities and enrollment information, according to a news release.
The Magellan Academy bills itself as a safe, clean and secure Christian learning environment for children 6 weeks to 12 years old. The Urbandale site is scheduled to open Tuesday, Sept. 4.

With learning centers in Florida and Arizona, the Urbandale campus is the largest of The Magellan Academy’s learning centers, and will serve families in Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Grimes, Waukee, West Des Moines and surrounding areas.
A student library, media room and a computer lab help reinforce the age-appropriate programs presented by Magellan Academy teachers.
A brand new school bus with air conditioning and individual seat belts is available to transport children to and from The Magellan Academy, where each day they are served hot and fresh meals prepared in a modern kitchen and served in a student cafeteria. Magellan students learn in facilities sanitized by a professional cleaning service, and two cameras installed in each classroom allow parents and the family members they select to watch the development of their children over a secure Internet connection in real-time.
