Urbandale's girls cross country team took third place at the Waukee Invitational Tuesday, behind Waukee and Roosevelt.

The Urbandale girls cross country team finished third at the Waukee Invitational Tuesday, behind strong finishes by Waukee and Roosevelt.

Coach Dan Davis said that he was pleased with his improving team, which beat a ranked team for the first time with its victory over 14th-ranked Ames.

"The team ran really well. I think we're really coming around," Davis said.

Four of varsity runners placed in the top 15. Sophomore Ashley Norem brought in Urbandale's top time of 15 minutes, 12 seconds.

Davis said that the team runs next in Clinton this weekend, where he's looking for another strong finish.

"I'm hoping for big things," Davis said.
