Places Like Urbandale Don't Just Happen; Volunteers Make Them Happening Places

Urbandale is know as a close-knit community that wraps its arms around community problems. Do yours need stretching?

Here are five cool opportunities to help out in Urbandale:

1. Sign up as a volunteer for the Urbandale Community Theatre, which has the following positions open in 2013-2014: Director (prior theater experience preferred); choreographer, vocal director, board members, technical volunteers

2. Sign up for the city of Urbandale’s Adopt-a-Trail and Adopt-a-Park public service programs for volunteers to assist the City in keeping trails and parks beautiful. Volunteers and sponsors are responsible for trash pick-up two times per month and reporting any vandalism.  This program is open to community groups, businesses, churches and individual citizens.

3. Become a Goodwill “treasure hunter.”  It’s easy and requires a time commitment of only a few hours a week or a few hours a month. Get to know your neighbors and other volunteers while sorting through donations to the Goodwill store at 4520 NW Urbandale Drive..

5. Slide a little green Urbandale Little League’s way to help offset parents’ expenses to travel to Williamsport, PA to watch their kids play in the Little League Baseball World Series. 

The players’ travel and accommodations are for the most part covered, team Manager Robert Ball said, but it’s a stretch for some of the parents. if you can’t make a fundraiser at Overtime Hub, Sports and Grub, 4810 86th St., from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, shoot the Little League folks an email at Urbandalell@gmail.com.
