Send Flowers? Plaza Florist Celebrates its 30th Annviersary

Local flower shop owner Sandy Taylor is celebrating her 30th anniversary in business by thanking the customers and community who have remained loyal since the company’s seedling days.

“It is truly an honor to be serving this community for so long,” said Sandy Taylor, owner, Plaza Florist and Gifts. “We have come a long way in 30 years and we owe it all to our fabulous customers.”

Plaza Florist and Gifts was originally opened and owned by Larry Press in late 1950s. In 1983, Sandy and her husband Emmett bought Plaza Florist and Gifts and it has become an Urbandale institution for celebrations and events of all kinds.

To celebrate this milestone, the company is having an open house from 4 to 6 pm on Wednesday, October 23rd at the store, located at 6656 Douglas Ave in Urbandale. There will be a ribbon cutting with the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce at 4:30 pm.

Plaza Florist and Gifts was originally located at 66th and Douglas and was moved to the current location in downtown Urbandale in 1994.

"Plaza Florist and Gifts has played a huge role in so many areas of the Urbandale community," said Tiffany Menke, Executive Director for the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce. "We are thankful to have Plaza Florist and Gifts as a long-standing member of the Chamber. Sandy is a talented, smart, small business owner who gives back to the community in so many ways."
