Sporting Goods Shops Will Change Over at Merle Hay Mall
Dunham's Sports is leaving the mall at the end of this month, but Merle Hay management has announced a new sporting goods chain will take its place.
Shoppers used to heading to Merle Hay Mall for their gear will continue to find options there, even though one of the stores is turning over.
MC Sports, a regional sporting goods chain, is moving into Merle Hay Mall this summer, fill the space currently occupied by Dunham’s Sports, reports the Des Moines Register. MC Sports will leave the mall at the end of this month when its lease expires, Joe Murdock, Merle Hay Mall manager.
MC Sports will remodel about 25,000 square feet in the mall, taking over the Dunham’s space plus several more storefronts including the empty spot left when David’s Briar shop moved out, the Register said.

The $1 million-plus renovation will bring a new look to the mall’s northwest section, he told the newspaper.
MC Sports has three other Iowa stores in Ankeny, Mason City and Dubuque. The company operates 74 stores in seven Midwest states.
