Urbandale Associate Principal Finalist for Cedar Rapids Job

Brian Coppess is among four finalists for Cedar Rapids principal job.

Brian Coppess, an associate principal at Urbandale High School, is one of five finalists being interviewed this week for the position of principal at Cedar Rapids’ John F. Kennedy High School.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported that Coppess and the other four finalists were scheduled to meet this week with students, staff, parents and community members.

The current principal, Mary Wilcynski, is retiring at the end of the school year.

Two of the finalists hold administrative positions for the Cedar Rapids school district. The other two are from Queens, NY, and Charlotte, NC.

Coppess has been with the Urbandale school district for 14 years, starting as th activities director for grade 6-12. He has been associate principal at the high school for a decade, according to the school district’s web site.

Before joining the Urbandale school district, he taught for 10 years in the Nevada, IA school district and three years in the Buffalo Center, IA school district.
