Urbandale Fire Department Will Teach Kids About Fire, EMS: Download Registration Form

Kids Fire Academy to be held in June will teach kids about fire prevention, lifesaving and other topics.

 

The Urbandale Fire Department is offering Kids Fire Academy June 3-5, according to a news release.

Participants of this academy will learn about the history of the fire service and emergency medical services (EMS) and the roles that firefighter/EMTs serve in the community today.

Topics that will be covered include: fire prevention, first aid, firefighting and rescue, daily duties of Firefighter/EMTs, and requirements to become a firefighter/EMT.

The last day of the Academy will include several “hands on” activities utilizing a variety of equipment the Urbandale Fire Department uses.

Participants must be  between 8-15 years old. The $25 registration fee includes a Fire Academy T-shirt and lunch with Urbandale firefighters on the last day.

To register, download the attached form or contact the Urbandale Fire Department at  (515) 278-3970 to register.

Also, there are still several sessions remaining in the Citizens Fire Academy, which concludes May 18 with graduation ceremonies and a barbecue, beginning at 11 a.m. at Urbandale Fire Station 42, 3927 121st Street.

Upcoming sessions:

April 25: Introduction to EMS with paramedic Julie Stuckle.

May 2: Introduction to technical rescue with Lt. St Wilson and Lt. Dan Birkett

May 9: Fire prevention initiatives with Fire Marshal Jon Rech and Assistant Chief Mike Cardwell.

The sessions are held from 6-10 p.m. on Thursday nights. at Station No. 24.
