Urbandale J-Hawks Creep Into Register's Top 10 Rankings

The Des Moines Sunday Register rankings of Class 4A football programs has the Urbandale J-Hawks sitting at No. 9 on the list.

The J-Hawks played their first game of the season Friday at Fort Dodge, handing the Dodgers a 42-14 loss at home.

According to the Fort Dodge Messenger, the Dodgers started out strong, but Urbandale scored touchdowns on the first three possessions of the third quarter and gained 333 yards in the second half to help seal the win.

Fort Dodge's coach, Matt Miller told the newspaper that Urbandale's Allen Lazard helped quell his team's momentum.

The paper said:

The J-Hawks had six plays go for 20 yards or more in the second half, including a pair of long passes from junior quarterback Logan Augustine to classmate Allen Lazard.

Lazard, a 6-foot-4 elite team all-stater who already has Div. I offers from Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska, shifted the momentum in Urbandale's favor for good early in the third quarter by hauling in a jump-ball touchdown pass than covered 45 yards on third-and-long.

The J-Hawks play their first home game this Friday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. against Des Moines Hoover.
