Urbandale J-Hawks Open Football Season Tonight in Fort Dodge

Last week's cool temps made it feel like football weather was here. The humidity is gone, the temps will soon fall for real and the Urbandale J-Hawks kick off their football season tonight at Fort Dodge.

The 7 p.m. game at Dodger Stadium is the season opener for both teams. 

The Des Moines Register's CIML preview says this about Urbandale: The J-Hawks’ standout athletes like Allen Lazard, Shaquille Wells and Markell Colemon can be the difference in a game. In 2011, Urbandale was the lowest-scoring team with a winning record in Class 4-A.

And because sizable chunks of Urbandale are in the Johnston and Waukee school districts, we've got those game previews, too.

Johnston vs. Des Moines Lincoln

The Johnston Dragons head to Des Moines Lincoln tonight for the second game of the 2012 season. The 7 p.m. game at Hutchens Stadium is the season opener for Lincoln. 

Last week, No. 10 Johnston lost its home opener to No. 5 Dowling Catholic in devastating style. The Dragons were up 16-7 in the second quarter, only to fall 34-16 at the end of the game.

Waukee vs. Valley

The Warriors host neighboring West Des Moines Valley tonight at 7:30 p.m. at next to Waukee High School. It is the opening game of Waukee's season, while the top-ranked Tigers won their opener last week over Ottumwa.
