Urbandale National Night Out Bring Honors to Police Department

For the third year in a row the Urbandale Police Department has been honored for its National Night Out event, which draws more than 1,000 residents.

For the third straight year, the Urbandale Police Department has received a national award from the National Association of Town Watch for its efforts to organize and host National Night Out.

Officer Randy Peterson, community relations officer for the Urbandale department, told supporters, "I would like to thank you all for your hard work and for being a part of our national award-winning event. This is now the third consecutive year for this award. I am looking forward to a bigger and better National Night Out in 2013! I hope you are all still on board and will see you next summer!"

The Urbandale Police Department was one of only two agencies within Iowa to receive the award, said Police Chief Ross McCarty. Urbandale Police was selected as a national award winner for its outstanding participation in the 29th annual National Night Out crime, drug and violence prevention program. This year’s event involved 37.5 million people in 15,700 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.
