Update: Urbandale Residents Can Return to Neighborhood After Gas Leak Evacuation
A gas main leak near 142nd and Oak Brook prompted the evacuation.

Residents are being allowed to return to an Urbandale neighborhood that was evacuated because of a large gas main break, reports WHO-TV.
The Des Moines Register reports a construction crew caused a leak in a 2-inch gas line prompting a mandatory evacuation order to be issued.

Authorities were concerned that the natural gas could either ignite in its line or get into the sewer lines and cause an explosion.
Urbandale police evacuated a half-mile radius around 142nd and Oak Brook Drive; the area is north of the intersection of 142nd Street and Hickman Road. Officials used the Code Red system, a reverse 911 call, to notify residents of the evacuation.

The break was reported around 11: 15 a.m.
The Urbandale Police Department posted this warning on its Facebook page about noon: A large gas line break has occurred at 142nd Street and Oak Brook Drive. A quarter mile evacuation has been ordered. If you live in the affected area please evacuate the area.
