Urbandale Police Said No Illegal Fireworks – And They Meant It

The Urbandale Police Department issued several citations over the Fourth of July to those possessing illegal fireworks.

Urbandale Police were serious when they said they were cracking down on illegal fireworks this Fourth of July.

Over the holiday, WHO Channel 13 reported that police responded to over two dozen calls throughout the week.

Those calls resulted in five citations, according to the television station.

Those who received citations will be required to appear in court, Urbandale Police Public Information Officer Randy Peterson said. Parents of children younger than 14 will be cited if compliance with the law is not followed.

Discharging illegal fireworks is a simple misdemeanor, punishable by a fine ranging from $65 to $625, according to the Iowa Code.

Last year the department also had five cases in which people were cited for using illegal fireworks, Peterson said.
