Urbandale Library Trustees Name Vice-President, Call for Public Input on Proposed Fee Hike

The Urbandale Public Library Board of Trustees seeks input on changes to library fees

The Urbandale Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved Sheila Whalen as vice-present of the board. She fills a vacancy left by Kris Winter, who officials said resigned.

Whalen will fill in until July 1, 2012. She has served on the board since 2005 in a variety of roles, including president last year. Her current term expires July 1, 2013, according to the board’s website.  

In other news, library trustees this week stressed the need for public input on a proposal to for some library services. Library patrons are urged to come to the next board meeting or contact trustees with their input.

Trustee Tom Graves stressed the need for public input on the proposed fee changes.

The proposals include increasing the fine for late returns from 10 cents to 20 cents per item per day. Inter-library loans could increase from $1.25 to $2 per borrowed item. Non-profit organizations could be charged a $50 fee to rent meeting rooms, among other items.

The board’s next meeting is at 6:00 p.m. on April 23 at the library.
