Urbandale's Gass Brothers Honored at Capital
The five Gass brothers, who served in World War II, were honored today by Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad in a ceremony in front Iowa's WWII monument.
A crowd made up of many friends and family gathered together Friday afternoon at the State House to pay tribute to the Gass brothers, who broadcaster Tom Brokaw called part of the "Greatest Generation."
All five Gass brothers, now in their 80s, served their country during World War II.
Gov. Terry Branstad was on hand to present the brothers, who are Urbandale natives, with a proclamation honoring their service during the Second World War.

KCCI news anchor Kevin Cooney addressed the brothers in a speech, thanking them for their efforts, and both Congressmen Leonard Boswell and Tom Latham took time to praise the brothers' efforts. The brothers are believed to be the only surviving family of WWII veterans.
